December 2020 – Donation Day – Help During Christmas

A parade of local school children has brightened the streets of downtown Grass Valley on the Friday before Christmas school break since 1883. The parade won’t take place this year, but the need that inspired Donation Day so many years ago—to help families at Christmas time—remains in our community today.

Monetary donations may be sent to Grass Valley Ladies Relief Society at P.O. Box 1132, Cedar Ridge, CA 95924 so that they may purchase food donations for Interfaith Food Ministry which serves our local community. Hooper & Weaver is proud to support the Grass Valley Ladies Relief Society and we encourage you to support them and our community again this year. Thank you!

December 2020 – Tree of Love at Hooper & Weaver in Nevada City

A Tree of Love will shine bright over Nevada City in December. As part of Friends of Hospice annual Tree of Love fundraiser, Hooper & Weaver Mortuary is the setting for a magnificent Tree of Love—with 2,000 lights representing the life of a loved one cared for by Hospice of the Foothills.

With a $15 donation to Friends of Hospice you can write a special message to those you wish to honor on a Tree of Love ornament. The ornament will be displayed at one of several Memorial Trees located throughout the community. Call Friends of Hospice at 530-272-5739 for more information.

November 11, 2020 – Honoring our Veterans

Veterans Day is Wednesday, November 11. Originally known as Armistice Day, this special day commemorates the end of World War I—on the 11th hour, 11th day, and 11th month of 1918. At Hooper & Weaver, we salute all of the men and women who have served in our country’s armed forces, and the families of our veterans who have felt the effects of war. Thank you for your service.

May 25, 2020 – Honoring our Fallen Heroes on Memorial Day

Memorial Day marks a solemn occasion when we can respectfully honor those who died during service to our country. This special day of remembrance was first established as Decoration Day after the Civil War. The graves of war dead were decorated with flowers as a way to honor their memory and sacrifice. At Hooper & Weaver we pay tribute to our country’s fallen heroes with a veteran’s flag display at each of our cemeteries. Our drives are lined with American flags, and miniature flags are placed on the graves of veterans. Call 530-265-2429 for more information or for directions to Greenwood Memorial Gardens Cemetery, New Elm Ridge Cemetery, Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Forest View Cemetery and Pine Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Day Weekend 2020 – Butterfly Garden of Remembrance

Hooper & Weaver once again provided a way to honor loved ones over Memorial Day weekend through a fundraiser for Friends of Hospice. With a $15 donation to Friends of Hospice you could fill out a name card with a message of remembrance. The cards were tied to wrought iron butterflies mounted on garden stakes and placed in a garden designated as the Butterfly Garden of Remembrance. This very special garden was viewed throughout the Memorial Weekend (May 23, 24 & 25) at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
