Darrell Russell Foster

October 2, 1948- October 14, 2026
Darrell Foster, 78, a longtime resident of Susanville CA, peacefully went home to the Lord on October 14th 2026. He was born on October 2nd to Russell Murray Foster and Florence Victoria Foster (Jordan) in San Rafael CA, the younger brother of Gale. He later moved to Novato CA and grew up there. His mother tragically passed away from cancer when Darrell was young. He had fond memories of spending time with his grandparents JB and Eve Foster in Hawkinsville and backpacking in the Marble Mountains.
After graduating from high school in San Diego where he was living with his Uncle Don, he attended Junior College in Ukiah and College of the Siskiyous in Weed CA, ultimately receiving a bachelors degree in teaching from Chico State. He also served in the National Guard. Darrell had a long and meaningful career serving as a behavioral health case worker & rehabilitation specialist at the Lassen County Health & Social Services department. He was a dedicated soccer coach and referee over many years in Yreka, Redding and Susanville.
He loved his family and friends, backpacking in the Marble Mountains, eating ice cream, and was a lifelong fan of the San Francisco 49ers. He had a special gift for conversation and truly never met a stranger; he could usually find some point of connection with anyone after striking up a conversation with them. He enjoyed fellowship with his church family at Community Church of Susanville. Later in life, he spent several months at Summerset Senior Living in Reno NV before his passing.
He was predeceased by his beloved mother Florence Foster, father Russell Foster, and wife Janice Foster (Shearin). He leaves behind his sister Gale Huffman, children Chris Foster (Mariyam), Jaime Heijmen (R-J) and Matthew (Amanda), stepchildren Jessica Byers, Grady Irvin, Anna Aufderheid, Wesley Irvin, Melanie Irvin and Tali Bruce, nephews Rich & Jeff Simpton and niece Marcella Helmers, along with many grandchildren and beloved friends and relatives.
A private family service and burial are planned. In his memory, please enjoy a 49ers game and a generous serving of ice cream.
