Dennis Edward Kosher

Dennis Edward Kosher, 65, of Grass Valley, California, passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, following a brief illness.
Dennis was born May 8, 1961, in San Francisco to Louis and Barbara Kosher. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area community of Redwood City, attending Roosevelt Elementary School and John F. Kennedy Middle School before graduating from Sequoia High School in 1979.
Following high school, Dennis managed his family’s convenience store, The Yankee Peddler, in Grass Valley from 1979 until the family sold the business in 1985. He remained with the new owners for several more years. During his working life, Dennis also worked in shipping for Thomson Multimedia aka: Grass Valley Group, and for Innovative Metal Fab, a manufacturer serving the electronics industry.
Dennis enjoyed fishing, gold panning, collecting memorabilia, shooting, mountain biking, listening to loud Heavy Metal music, following the San Francisco 49ers, and vacationing with family. He especially enjoyed decorating his home and yard for Halloween and Christmas. He went all out for both holidays, regularly adding to his decorations and taking great pride in creating displays for others to enjoy.
Those who knew Dennis will likely most remember his quick wit and distinctive sense of humor. He was always ready with something funny to say, sometimes requiring those around him to stop for a moment and figure out exactly where he was coming from. That humor was unmistakably Dennis and remained one of his most memorable qualities.
Dennis was the father of Ashley McQuire and Brittney Shetterly and stepfather to Julie Rishardson and Erica Richards. He took pride in the women his daughters became, and watching Ashley and Brittney build families of their own brought him great joy. He was grandfather to Porter, Emmett, and Logan Shetterly, and Remington McQuire.
Dennis is also survived by his brother, Bob Kosher, with whom he was just 17 months apart, as well as many extended family members and life long friends.
Dennis loved life, and he loved his family. His humor, personality, and the memories accumulated over 65 years will remain with the family and friends who knew him.
A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 7, 2026, 11 am at Calvary Bible Church, 11481 CA-174, Grass Valley CA 95945.
Dennis loved music, concerts, and especially rock n roll. We want to honor him by having guests wear their favorite concert or band shirt to the service. We know he would love seeing everyone honoring him in this way. Thank you.
