Florence Arlene Flynn Hight passed away on August 3rd, 2026 at Spring Hill Manor. She was 89.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 235 Chapel Street, Grass Valley.

Florence was born on March 9th, 1937 in Jersey City, NJ to Timothy and Florence Flynn.

She received her teaching degree from Jersey City State Teachers College where she met her husband, Charles, on a Geology field trip. They were married in 1959 in Jersey City.

They moved to Point Pleasant Beach in 1964 where Florence taught at G Harold Antrim Elementary school for 30 years until her retirement in 1994. She and Charles moved to Grass Valley, CA in 1994. Florence volunteered at Union Hill School for many years. She was a wonderful teacher and touched the lives of so many children. One of her biggest joys was seeing her former students.

Florence loved watching baseball, especially the NY Mets and the SF Giants. She also loved reading cozy mysteries. Most of all she loved her family never missed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s musical performances and sports events.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Charles.

She is survived by her son, Thomas (Ellen) ; daughter Dorothy Goodnow (James) ; grandson Jeffrey ( Claire) ; grandson Daniel ( Sydney); grandson Kevin; granddaughter Sarah (Keith).
