David Allen Sidebottom

David Allen Sidebottom left this world and entered the arms of Jesus on June 9, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was 82 years old. He is remembered as a deeply devoted husband, father, brother, uncle, and papa.

David was born to Alfred and Betty Sidebottom on September 26, 1943, at the Community Hospital in Grass Valley. Growing up a true Grass Valley native, he graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1961. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army at Fort Ord, California, where he met the love of his life, Barbara, in 1966. The two were married in 1967 and shared 59 years of marriage together. Together, they raised three sons: Troy, Shad, and Aaron.

A skilled craftsman, David worked as a “Body and Fender man” by trade for 50 years. Over his long career, he shared his talents at local shops including Hockets, Hubacker Cadillac, Fulton, and Joe’s, before eventually retiring from Sierra Auto Body.

David was well known throughout the local community for his time as a pitcher in fast-pitch softball. He possessed a legendary arm that gained a reputation for being tough to hit on—and even tougher to be hit by! He was also an avid outdoorsman who passionately loved to hunt deer, elk, quail, pheasant, turkey, and more. David spent many years raising and training bird-hunting dogs, and he took great joy in passing down his rich hunting and fishing skills to each of his boys.

In 2008, David made the most important decision of his life when he became a follower of Jesus Christ, accepting God’s free gift of salvation. From that day forward, he faithfully attended church alongside his wife, Barbara. At church, he became widely known as a man with a great smile, a friendly greeting, a good hug, and a listening ear who truly loved to converse with everyone he met.
While we grieve his passing, we rejoice in knowing that he has made it safely home to heaven. David is now joyfully reunited with his dad, Alfred; his mom, Betty; his little brother, Billy; his little sister, Linda; his sister, Edna “Gub”; and many other loved ones who have gone before.

David’s legacy lives on through his surviving family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara; his sons, Troy (Gina), Shad, and Aaron (Joy); his cherished grandchildren, Tyler, Trayton, Lexi, Emma, Cody, Grace, and Avery; his sisters, Marian and Glenda; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A Celebration of Life will be held on July 18th at 11:00 AM at Simple Truth Church Northpoint (455 Sutton Way, Grass Valley, CA 95945). All who knew and loved David are welcome to join the family for a service, good food, and the sharing of precious memories.
