Sharon Mackie unexpectedly passed away at her home on May 18, 2026, when she was 81.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Grass Valley.
Sharon was born on July 9, 1944, in San Diego, California, the daughter of Bill and Virginia Hullender. She was a third generation Californian.
Sharon spent decades as a nurse before moving to Ponderosa Pines in Grass Valley twenty years ago to semi-retire, to be closer to family.
Sharon loved living in Grass Valley at Ponderosa. She enjoyed activities with her Church, and volunteering with hospice for the past twenty years. She was our family historian. Our roots run deep here. Her Grandparents moved here during W.W. 2 We have a family plot with generations of family members at the Masonic Cemetery. Her Grandfather, Clay Caldwell, was Superintendent of Schools for Nevada County. Her father, Bill Hullender served as Mayor in the late 1990’s -2000’s. Sharon and her son first moved to Grass Valley in 1976.
Sharon loved travel and adventure. She was a veteran of about ten cruises in addition to travel to England, Scotland, Italy, Uganda, Nova Scotia, and several Hawaiian Islands. She was always up for a good Museum. Most recently, she started visiting U.S. National Parks with her son Michael. We shared a wonderful trip for her 8oth birthday to Maui, HI.
She will be missed by friends and family alike.
The family would like to thank her wonderful neighbors, Michelle Reynolds and Evelyn Smith; in addition to Christy and her husband for all their help during this time. Ponderosa Pines is a great Community. We love you guys.
Thank you to Emmanuel Church for being there for us. Sharon loved her Church and the good people in it.
Special thanks to Nevada County Sheriff’s Dept. Coroners’ office, particularly Sgt. Highsmith for his professionalism and assistance in dealing with this unforeseen matter.
Hooper and Weaver did a great job for us, to see mother in person and say goodbye, which was extremely important to us, as you can imagine.
She is survived by her son, Michael Mackie and her fur baby Angle.
She was preceded in death by her parents Bill and Virgina Hullender and her brother Steve.
Memorial contributions may be made to friends of Hospice
