Melvyn Pape

Graveside Services for Melvyn Edward Pape will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2025 at Sierra Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 459 Hollow Way, Nevada City. Military Honors will be rendered by the Nevada County All Veterans Honor Guard. Mel passed away on October 26, 2025.
Mel was born May 27, 1940 in Oakland, CA to Harold and Elva (Hogan) Pape. He graduated from Diablo High School in 1958. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Marines where he served until 1962. He then became a Journeyman and eventually an Overhead Sprinkler Fitter in fire protection for over 35 years.
He had a love for softball, California history, collecting knives, genealogy and gold panning.
He was an amazing man, husband, father and friend and will be missed by many. He never met a perfect stranger.
Mel is survived by his wife, Geri Pape of 46 years, sister Marji McCormick, son Patrick Pape, son Phillip Pape, daughter Diane Pape, grandchildren Jacqueline Pape, Nicolas Pape, Jacob Pape, Daphne Pape, Talowa Fallingwater, Melanie Pape Tiffin, and great grandchild Evanni Pape. He also leaves nieces Jayne Stepp and Marlo Moon, great Nieces Emma and Sara Moon and great nephews Robert and Jack Stepp, and extended his family Gary Golisch, Gesche Olsen, Tim and Cody Golisch and Janel Hess.
He’s preceded in death by his parents Harold and Elva (Hogan) Pape.
