Dayna Scott Thomas “Byers, Wicks”, age 29, of Auburn CA, unexpectedly passed away the morning of Sunday October 5, 2025. While our hearts are broken, we take comfort knowing that her soul will be reunited with her husband, Wesley Stephen Thomas. She was the beloved daughter of Lara Scott Wicks and Chris Allen Byers. Most importantly, she was “Mom” to her sweet 9 year old daughter, Asher Jaine Tassone.

Dayna was a blazing light to all who loved her, born at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley CA on April 18, 1996. She lived in the community of Lake of the Pines, located in the Foothills of Nevada County. She adored the river, boating at the lake, hiking the natural trails and exploring the landscape of the area where she grew up and built lifelong relationships along the way. A free spirit in every sense, she was a talented artist who craved the written word, especially those found in music. She could often be found at festivals, concerts or Giants games with her daughter and the countless friends and family she held near to her heart. She was an advocate for those less fortunate, never shying away from helping a friend or stranger in need. She was fierce, loyal and brave, all qualities people who met her instantly recognized.

Dayna was a graduate of Bear River High School, class of 2014. She was active in youth and competitive softball, growing into an elite player at first base and one whose bat was heavily relied upon. She played on championship teams for NC Intensity, Nevada County Wildfires and Bear River Lady Bruins Varsity Softball, as well as played BRJV basketball.

Dayna is survived by her daughter Asher, parents Lara and Chris, sister Bailey and nephew Jonah, sister McKenna and brother Caleb, grandparents Edward and Debra Wicks, Virginia Byers and Kathleen McLennan Tucker.

To have known Dayna is to recall her advocacy and love for her animals, especially her good old boy, Luke. In lieu of flowers, she would have appreciated her family and friends making a donation to their favorite local animal rescue or shelter.

Dayna’s Celebration of Life will be from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m., Saturday, November 8, 2025 at the Elks Lodge, 195 Pine Street Auburn, CA 95603
