Elsie “Lee” Jasmin

Elsie “Lee” Jasmin was born on July 28, 1941, in Tucson AZ at Storks Nest Hospital, to Olive and Chelmer Buchanon. She was the oldest of 4 kids. Her family moved to CA when she was 5 yrs old and lived in a few different places eventually moving to Grass Valley. Lee graduated from Nevada Union High School in 1959. When her family moved on to Indio CA, Lee chose to stay in Grass Valley, meeting her future husband and father to her children, Clyde Walker. Lee and Clyde were married in 1963.

Lee started her nursing career as a Nurse’s Aide at a local senior care home. Shortly after she decided to devote herself to nursing and began the necessary education, attending school to first become a Licensed Vocational Nurse (L.V.N.) and then a Registered Nurse (R.N.) Accomplishing both achievements while working full time and raising her three children. During her educational years, she took a position at Sierra Nevada Hospital and stayed throughout the rest of her career working primarily in the ICU. She loved her work as a nurse and later a shift supervisor. Over the years, she kept many of the kind letters she received from patients and their families, as well as the many notes from her colleagues. Lee also kept her nursing license active until the last years of her life, many years after retiring. She had so much pride and always felt a continuing sense of duty to maintain her ability to aid and care for others.

Lee was preceded in death by her younger brother David, both parents Olive and Chelmer, spouse Ken Jasmin, and first spouse Clyde Walker.

Lee is survived by her sisters Donna Smith and Sherry Tatro; her children Mark Walker, Natasha Walker, and Dawn Alzina; as well as her many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Lee was an incredibly strong and successful woman, who managed so many of life’s ups and downs with grit and grace. She will be missed by so many.

Even though we can no longer hold you in our arms, we will always hold you in our hearts.

Graveside services were held at Forest View Cemetery in Nevada City on August 22, 2025.
