Thomas “Thom” John Lyons

June 18, 1939 – August 16, 2025

Thomas John Lyons passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Thom was a proud San Franciscan with a sharp wit and a steadfast devotion to those he loved; Thom was the kind of man who showed up—for his family, his friends, and anyone who needed a helping hand or a good laugh.

He was born and raised in the Excelsior District of San Francisco by Cornelius and Claire Lyons. Before leaving the Bay Area Thom found great success in the commercial real estate and investment arena. Where he was the mastermind in the remodel and reconstruction of an 11-story office building using its original design concepts along with modern amenities. Thom was also the brainchild of an enormously successful event, The Great American Christmas – that featured local artists and craftsman. Thom had a natural ability to network and talk to strangers with his charming wit.

While a proud San Franciscan, Thom spent the last 25 years of his life in Nevada City, where he found joy in the slower pace and the beauty of the foothills. Here he had a short yet successful encore career in residential real estate.

Thom had a lifelong passion for classic cars, and in his retirement years his garage was more than just a place, it was a place of stories, laughter, and the occasional beer and banter with buddies. He found joy in supporting his children and grandchildren in their sports, races, and careers, cheering them on with pride and unwavering encouragement.

He was a devoted husband to Marianne for 65 years, and a loving father to Cheryl Bailey, Jennifer McCain (Cliff), Daniel Lyons (Bonnie) and Michelle Fust. His legacy lives on through 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his humor, strength, and generous spirit.

Thom Lyons lived with integrity, laughed often, and loved deeply. His presence will be missed, but his spirit will live on in every engine rev, every shared story, and every act of kindness inspired by his example.

A private funeral mass will be held for close family. A celebration of life will be held at Thom and Marianne’s home on September 6, 2025, where his memory will be honored in the company of those who knew him best.
