“Stu” Mario Wesly Stewart

In Loving Memory of “Stu” Mario Wesly Stewart
August 27, 1974 – June 7, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of “Stu” Mario Stewart, who left us unexpectedly on June 7, 2025, at the age of 50. Born in Alameda, California, on August 27, 1974, to his mother, Barbara Jean Kelley, Stu moved with his mom to Grass Valley in the early 1980s. He attended Hennessy Elementary School and graduated in the Class of 1992 from Empire High School and went on to study at Sierra Community College.
Stu dedicated his life to landscaping, a profession he loved deeply. His talent for enhancing the beauty of the outdoors was unmatched, and his work with local companies like Scope Landscaping (formerly BP Landscaping) and Premier Landscaping, alongside friend Paul Henslee, left a lasting impact on the community.
Known for his infectious smile and love of life, Stu was a true fan of his favorite teams — the Miami Dolphins and the Oakland A’s. He spent his free time playing softball, disc golfing with friends, and enjoying the great outdoors, which provided him with countless adventures. His circle of friends, who became like family, will always cherish the memories they made with him.
Stu was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Barbara Jean Kelley, and his cherished kitties, June, Patches, Liberty, and many others.
He is survived by his loyal kitty Benny, his half-sister Miranda Stewart, and a vast network of friends who loved him as family.
Benny will be cared for by a close friend of Stu’s, who will ensure that he lives out his days with the same love and attention that Stu always gave him.
Stu’s kindness, genuine heart, and joy for life will be deeply missed by all who knew him. His memory will live on in the laughter of friends, the beauty of the landscapes he helped create, and the countless moments of love and laughter he shared with those closest to him.
A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Stu on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Western Gateway Park – Pavilion 4. A BBQ lunch, generously donated by Dwayne Ferris of Savor the Flavor BBQ, will be provided. Guests are asked to bring a side dish to share, a lawn chair, their beverage of choice, and their favorite memories of Stu.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Stu’s Memorial Fund – information can be found on Facebook Event Page Stu’s Celebration of Life – which will be used to create a bench in his honor at the Western Gateway Penn Valley Disc Golf Course—a place where Stu spent many joyful hours with friends.
