Terry Neal Thies

September 21, 1942 – May 1, 2025
Terry was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, a true Hoosier. He attended Miami University (Oxford, Ohio) on a NROTC Scholarship, graduating with a BA in Physics and was commissioned as a United States Naval Aviator. He had two deployments on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt, one to the Western Pacific/Vietnam and one to the Mediterranean. He flew over 100 combat missions and logged over 1700 hours in the A-4 Skyhawk. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Navy Commendation, and two air medals. Upon returning to civilian life, Terry was a member of the Chicago Mercantile Exchange, trading in financial futures. He was VP and Treasurer of American TransEuro Corporation providing advisory and floor trading service to clients. Tired of early morning commutes and winter weather, Terry and family moved to Orinda, CA, followed by retirement to Lake Wildwood. He served as LWW Board President and Chairman of the Lake Committee, and was the 2024 Lake Wildwood Citizen of the Year.
Terry is survived by his wife of 60 years, Linda, his children Aaron Dellolacono Thies (Tara) and Susannah Montoya (Mike) and his grandchildren Eric and Noah Thies, Sam, Maylen, and Addison Montoya.
To know Terry was to love life. He was one of the good guys. He was kind, patient, modest, generous, practical, and FUN. He could fix and build anything, and was whip smart with a great sense of humor. He loved any food with garlic, Costco, Manhattans, Dave Barry, a good rock and roll band, tennis, skiing, the Midwest, airplanes, lake sunsets, and weather tracking. But most of all he loved his friends and family. Any time spent with his family and grandchildren was his favorite.
Donations are suggested to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital Foundation, Cancer Center.
Per Terry’s wishes there will be a family Celebration of Life.
