Joyce Melugin

On October 8, 2026, Joyce Melugin was called home to be with her precious Lord and Savior and her awaiting loved ones. Joyce was surrounded by loving family who treasured her beyond words.
Joyce’s celebration of Life will be held Sunday, November 22, 1:30 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church in Grass Valley.
Joyce Merle Reid was born on February 20, 1929 to John Ely Reid and Glau Brigham Reid in Stamford, TX. Joyce was just a few minutes older than her twin brother Bud. She had nine siblings including Elsie, Rex, Curt, Berrel, Ola, Dean, Bud, Rose and Reford.
At age 12, the family moved to Reseda, CA. At Canoga Park high School, Joyce was part of Girls Club and enjoyed twirling her baton as a majorette.
Joyce married Jack Melugin after high school in 1947. They eventually made their home at Donner Lake where they built a wonderful life for their four children – Jack, Curt, Lori and Gail. Over their lifetime, this hardworking couple built seven homes and the Donner Lake Coffee Shop and Sporting Goods Store.
Joyce was a cheerful and industrious woman who enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, and lovingly serving her family, extended family and friends. She loved and delighted in serving her precious husband Jack.
In later years, Joyce and Jack rode dirt bikes and traveled in their motor home. Joyce learned to tole paint and China paint, developing skills and deepening friendships.
Joyce knew and loved Jesus and from this her love flowed to her family, friends and community. She was a Pink Lady volunteer at Golden Empire Nursing Home. As a member of Calvary Bible Church, Joyce served by teaching homeschool kids and helping with special dinners. She was part of the “Merrie Marthas” ministry to babies and children. She also had a love for Christian Home Ministries mission work in Brazil.
After her husband’s death in 1997, Joyce continued to live her life by faith, loving her children, ten grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, siblings, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Joyce loved and served for 97 years.
