Joyce Roath, age 94, of Grass Valley, California, passed away peacefully on July 31, 2026.

Born in Montana, Joyce moved to Grass Valley in 1968, where she served her community for years as a dispatcher for the Nevada County Sheriff’s office. She often reflected it was the most rewarding and enjoyable job of her life. She earned respect from her colleagues for her skill, calm under pressure, and commitment to public safety.

Beyond her professional life, Joyce was an exceptionally talented and passionate quilter, winning numerous awards for her beautiful, intricate creations and finding great joy sharing her skills, mentoring friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Mindy, her son, Tom, daughter-in-law, Shirley, her cherished grandson, John, the nieces and nephews of her twin sister Janet and brother Richard, and dear family friend Kevin. Joyce’s warmth, creativity, and joyful presence will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and former colleagues.

Her family is grateful for the loving and attentive care provided by staff at Spring Hill Manor and Sutter Hospice.
