Dorothy “Jane” Stouder

January 24, 1933 – June 18, 2026

Dorothy “Jane” Stouder of Grass Valley, CA, beloved family matriarch, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and soon-to-be great-great-grandmother, passed away on June 18, 2026, at the young age of 93.

Jane was born January 24, 1933, to Robert and Dorothy Pope, and was married to the late Donald “Jack” Stouder, M.D.

Jane was a deeply loved woman whose presence shaped generations. She was the heart of her family and beloved by her friends. Jane was also an artist of life. She had a curious mind, a creative spirit, and a lifelong love of learning. She was a devoted student of Anthropology and took so many classes at Sierra College that her family loved to say she could have earned her PhD at the University of Creativity. Known as “Adventure Jane”, she traveled the world seeking polar bears, penguins, and sandhill cranes, led Sierra Club hikes and survival courses, and loved nature, discovery, and wild places.

In her final conversations, Jane said all was well with her soul, and that she was at peace with joy in her heart.

Jane is survived by her children and their spouses, Michael Stouder, M.D. (Kris), of Roseville, CA; David Stouder (Mary Sue) of White City, OR; Mary Ann McCool (Kevin) of Live Oak, CA; and Carol Jimerfield (Danny) of Colfax, CA.

Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and families: Janet Glaze (Randy), with Addison Glaze and Austin Glaze (Amiya); Stephen Stouder (Kari), children Eric, Adam, and Ava; Daniel Stouder (Anna-Marie), children Hannah, Anthony, Jack, and Annabelle; Aaron Stouder; Blake Stouder; Cameron Stouder; Derrick Stouder (Melissa), children Emmett, Bonnie, Hannah, and Manford; Evan Stouder (Rae); Pete McCool (Suzanne), children Tyler, Noah, and Jack; Sorren McCool, son Owen; Molly McCool (Javy), children Autumn (Jaimie), expecting Jane’s first great-great-grandchild, Ellie, Zekey, and Zaiah; Bryan Twardus, children Jackson and Eden; and Lora Jane Scudder (John), children Johnny and Bradley.

Jane’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, and her love will remain with her family always.

A private family celebration will be held.
