William (Bill) Gainer

William (Bill) Gainer passed away on June 19, 2026, at the age of 77 in Grass Valley, CA. Born on February 17, 1949, in Oakland, CA.

Bill was known for his friendly demeanor, passion, and exceptional storytelling abilities. He graduated from Mt. Eden High School in Hayward, CA and later received two Associate of Arts degrees from Sierra College, a Bachelor of Arts from St. Mary’s College and Master of Public Administration from the University of San Francisco. His education background laid the foundation for a diverse and impactful career. Initially working for Ametek from 1969-1980, then founding Gainer Electrics in 1980, later joining the Nevada Irrigation District in 1983 until his retirement in 2009.

Apart from his professional life, Bill was a prolific writer, editor, promoter, publicist, poet and storyteller. He performed nationally and was recognized for his performance style, poetry and true stories. Bill was a published author of many books and a publisher and editor for R.L. Crow Publications. Bill is survived by his wife of 59 years Karen (Rodrigues) Gainer; his daughters Monica Reyes (Layne Hall) and Melissa DePedro (married to Donny); his son Mitchell Gainer; his grandchildren Nicholas Reyes, Madison DePedro, and Paige DePedro.

He is proceeded in death by his parents Bernard Gainer and Bettie Homer.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday July 11, 2026, from 11:30 a.m.- 3:00 p.m. at the Nevada County Horseman, 10600 Bubbling Wells Rd. in Grass Valley, CA. Attendees are invited for refreshments and a celebration of Bill’s life and friendships. Bill’s life was marked by his dedication to his family, his career and his love of poetry and storytelling, leaving a lasting impact on everyone he met.
