Russell Kelly Burke

December 30, 1952 – May 12, 2026

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Russell Burke, a beloved husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. Russell departed this world on May 12, 2026, at the age of 73, surrounded by family. Born on December 30, 1952 in Walla Walla, WA to Lorwin “Bud” Burke and Waneta “Jean” (Ogden) Burke, who preceded him in death.

Russell’s life was a tapestry of adventure, hard work, and simple joys. After graduating from Nevada Union High School in 1972, he and three friends traveled to upper New York state, where they worked in the food service industry at the renowned Concord Hotel. Upon returning to California, Russell embraced the rugged life of a roughneck in the Southern California oil fields. For 15 years, Russell honed his skills as a carpenter, contributing to both commercial and residential projects across Northern California. His craftsmanship was not just a career but a passion, evident in every nail hammered and every board measured with precision and care.

In 1990, Russell married the love of his life Debra D. (Schmidt) Burke and together they shared 35 beautiful years. Their marriage was a partnership built on love, laughter, and shared interests. Both Russell and Debra developed a love for collecting and selling antiques, which led them on countless adventures.

Russell’s zest for life was further expressed by his hobbies. An avid water skier, he found joy in skimming across the water’s surface- a reflection of his vibrant spirit. He loved hiking, camping, and gold panning, often spending peaceful days alongside the Yuba River.

Russell is survived by his devoted spouse Debra; sibling, Greg Burke (Barbara), Bryon Burke (Ruth), Janesica “Jan” Rakestraw (Matt), sister-in-law Suzanne (Schmidt) Traner. He leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, each of whom will carry forward his legacy of kindness, generosity, and warmth.

Russell was predeceased by his parents, his brother Dana “Dan” Burke, stepson Thomas Jesse Williams, brothers-in-law Patrick G Tierney, Frank G Shores III, and Joseph “Joe” Traner.

He will be remembered for his undeniable love and faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. A celebration of life memorial for Russell via Zoom will be announced in the near future.
