Kathleen Haider

Kathleen Haider (Marshall) passed away on Monday, June 1st, 2026, at UC Davis Medical Hospital due to complications from a recent procedure.

Kathleen was born on May 22nd, 1942 to William and Gertrude Marshall, in Red Lodge, Montana. Kathleen was the 5th of 8 children and is survived by brothers David (90) and Michael Marshall (82), her children, Darian (Dryden) and William Lewis, and Kenny, Kirstin (Souza), and Diana Haider as well as 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren.

Kathleen moved to Portland, Oregon at 18 and married Elden Lewis. They welcomed Marie (deceased), Darian, and William before divorcing. Kathleen later married Richard Haider. They had Kenny and Kirstin Haider, along with Diana, Kathleen’s stepdaughter.

In 1980, Kathleen permanently moved to Nevada County, living in both Nevada City and Grass Valley where she began making a lasting impact on the community. Kathleen worked at Aldo’s Restaurant, then J.C. Penney until retirement in 2006, mostly in the catalog department where many people remember her kindness and professionalism during their interactions.

Kathleen spent her free time listening to music, baking treats for friends and family, decorating, writing and sending personal cards and notes, and making every family holiday special. During her hours of daily prayer, Kathy prayed for peace in the world, the wellbeing of all people, and God’s mercy while also watching the nightly news and current sporting events.

Kathleen attended Saint Canice, often bringing family with her, where she sang in the choir. While attending St. Canice, Kathleen was a Sister of Mercy, Eucharistic minister, member of the MOMS group, and served in the religious education department. She was also the parish secretary for several years.

Kathleen had a heart for service and she shared that with family, friends, and the community. She worked for a time at Golden Empire Convalescent, Meals on Wheels, and volunteered at Hope House serving meals. Her faith and shared principles will remain a guiding light for many years to come, influencing many around her. Gramma “Kaffee”, as she was called by her grandkids, will be missed, but never forgotten.

A rosary and remembrance service will be held Monday, June 29th, at 3:00 pm at Hooper and Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 30th, at 11:30 am at Saint Canice Church in Nevada City, followed by reception at St. Canice Hall.
