Vernon Edmund Burke
Vernon Edmund Burke, 68, a recent resident of Grass Valley, CA passed away after a short battle with cancer, on February 7, 2026, surrounded by family. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Roy Douglas and Hazel Constance Burke, his brothers Kenneth Douglas Burke (Ginger) and Gregory Philip Burke (Gwen).
Born in Boston, Vernon also lived in NY, FL, NJ, and CA. He was a graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology and spent his career immersed in photography and film for over 40 years. Prior to retiring he was a VP and the Director of Film Operations for Technicolor. Vernon was a Creative, a natural leader, a gifted photographer, an avid road tripper, fisherman, car guy, camper, debater, fixer upper, and the go to guy for so many. He was both a dreamer and a doer. Vernon had a strong faith that saw him through life’s challenges. Above all, he loved his family and close friends whom he considered family.
Vernon is survived by his wife of 42 years, Kelly Carrillo Burke, his beloved children Weston Manuel Burke (Brenna), and Amy Alicia Burke. He was Grandad to Rowan, Henry, and James Burke. In addition, siblings Priscilla Ann Black, Judith Elaine Barry (Gregory), and Brian Edward Burke (Jocelyn), Sister-in-Law Kay Carrillo Drake (Paul) and nieces and nephews Victoria Black, Philip Black (Tiffany Huynh), Meghan Barry (Paul Jordan), Adam Barry (Emily), Elizabeth Himmelman (Shawn), Joshua Barry (Robyn Dunbar), Rebecca Cassidy (Pat), Brian Burke (Katie), Kenneth Burke (Sam), Graham Burke (Marina), Nathaniel Burke, Genevieve Burke (Tyler Rangulong), Eleanor Drake (Zach Hubbard), Matthew Drake, Monica Schiavone (John), Bartholomew Drake (Paige), Geno Drake.
Vernon’s family had a camp in Danbury, NH his entire life. He loved NH and his time at the camp while growing up and visiting with his own family as an adult. Vernon and Kelly took ownership of the property in 2017 and subsequently spent each summer there. A graveside service will take place in early spring in Danbury at Riverdale Cemetery.
