James “Jim” Young

James “Jim” Young passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in Granite Bay, California with his family at his side. He was 82 years old.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at 11:00 a.m. at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City, CA.
Jim was born and raised in Escondido, California to Delbert and Vantrice Young. In 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Mary Ellen Deputy, and together they had three children: Gary, Marcie and Charles. Soon after their marriage, Jim began a distinguished 35-year career in law enforcement when he joined the Escondido Police Department. He later retired from the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office as a Senior Homicide Investigator. A highly respected Homicide Investigator, Jim took great pride in his work and deeply valued the brotherhood and camaraderie of his fellow officers. In 1992, Jim married Yvonne, and they shared more than 20 wonderful years together. Following retirement, they moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona, where they enjoyed the desert sunshine and many rounds of golf. After the passing of his beloved Yvonne, Jim moved to Auburn, California to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren.
In his early 70’s, Jim discovered a new passion for entertaining. Blessed with an amazing baritone voice, he became part of a dedicated karaoke group in Auburn, where he thoroughly enjoyed singing and the friendships he formed there.
Jim will be sorely missed by his family, friends and his law enforcement family.
He is survived by his daughter, Marcie Young Lymath (John Lymath) of Granite Bay; his grandchildren, LaRae Lymath Hacker and Adam Lymath, and five great- grandchildren.
He’s preceded in death by his parents, Delbert and Vantrice; his siblings Madgie Leith, Denver Young and Joseph Young; sons Charles and Gary; and wife Yvonne.
Arrangements are under the direction of Hooper & Weaver Mortuary.
