Returning to Nevada County, he served as Principal of Hennessey and Bell Hill Schools before becoming Supervisor of Instruction for the Nevada County Office of Education. In 1974, George was elected Nevada County Superintendent of Schools, a role he held until 1978. He later served as Nevada Joint Union High School District Assistant Superintendent before being appointed Superintendent in 1978. He retired in 1990 after a distinguished career spanning decades of leadership in teaching, counseling, and adult education.
