George Marcum

George Marcum passed away peacefully on August 19th, 2025, surrounded by friends and family. He had been declining in health ever since the loss of his wife Debra of over 40 years, who passed away a year ago on August 22nd, 2024.

George was a natural tinkerer and had a knack for anything mechanical, even working on NASA’s Apollo antennae at one point. He brought that love of fixing and tinkering to the family’s beloved home in Nevada City, where he lovingly maintained it and was always helping Debra tackle home improvement projects. He also used his skills for other meaningful projects for his children – building everything from a treehouse, to Pinewood Derby cars, to a toy horse barn.

He loved Kung Fu movies, Christmas, WWE, and taking the family boating and camping at Bullards Bar. Dad jokes and groan-worthy puns were among his favorite things in this world. Nobody was safe from being asked where their henweigh was (“What’s a henweigh?” “Oh, about 4 or 5 pounds!”) or how long they’d had their hammerfer (“What’s a hammerfer?” “Pounding nails!”). He made friends wherever he went and was always well-loved.

He had four children and five grandchildren, whom he admired and believed in deeply. He was so proud of his family and he was always the dad who loved taking photos and filming every Christmas morning. Whatever their dreams and interests were, he would enthusiastically support them. It was perhaps best summed up one Father’s Day, when his eldest son wrote, “You have always been there for all of us. That is true success.”
