Carl Breman Godfrey

January 17, 1937 – July 09, 2025
We are saddened, the Godfrey Patriarch passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on July 9th, at the age of 88. To Carl, a devoted husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great grandfather, family was everything.
Born in Malden, MO, he grew up on a farm in Dexter, MO., where he learned the value of hard work. There, he met his wife Colleen, and were married for 68 years.
He earned a BA in Engineering from Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, MO. He served as a 2nd Lt. in the U.S. Army Signal Corp. ROTC. Carl worked in Engineering for 30 years, most of that at IBM in San Jose, CA.
Together, Carl and Colleen built a life of joy with their children Mark (Sabrina), Jeff (Eleanore) and predeceased by daughter Beth. He was most proud of his legacy of 6 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren! Carl cherished his family time, often cranking out homemade ice cream and home-grown blackberries to go on top! He took great pride in sharing his abundant crops of tomatoes to friends and family! When he retired to Grass Valley in the early 90’s, he loved gold panning, fishing, naps, and of course, ice cream!
His church life and faith were deeply important to him, dedicating his time to the Nevada City United Methodist Church’s annual craft fair among other duties.
Feel free to join us at a memorial service Saturday, August 9th, 11:00 a.m., at the Nevada City United Methodist Church on Broad Street. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Nevada City United Methodist Church. He will always be remembered fondly in our hearts.
