May 17, 1953 – May 20, 2025

Trudy Ellen Nye of Grass Valley, CA passed away peacefully on May 20th at the age of 72.

Born on May 17th 1953 in San Mateo, she grew up in nearby Los Altos. Trudy attended Los Altos High School (class of 1971) and Chico State University, achieving her BA in business education, a minor in French as well as a teaching credential in 1975.

She was enthusiastic about education and taught for 39 years in Santa Rosa and Rohnert Park.

Trudy had a passion for the outdoors and was more at home outside than in. She swam, skied, backpacked, cycled and kayaked throughout the United States and abroad. Trudy had an instrumental role in the development of the National Women’s Ski Patrol. She was also an active member of Sierra Express and Santa Rosa cycling clubs, a wildflower docent and a deacon of Sierra Presbyterian Church in Nevada City.

She is survived by her partner John Schugren, brother Tom, step-daughter Katie, Katie’s husband Josh, grandchildren Weston and Emerson and a host of loving friends and relatives. She is preceded in death by her parents William and Reba, and her husband Frank Pedrick.

Memorial services will be held at Sierra Presbyterian Church in Nevada City on August 3rd at 1pm.
