Richard Ancel Hickman a resident of Smartsville, CA, age 82 was tragically killed in a vehicle accident near Penn Valley, CA on April 17, 2024.

Richard was born in Grass Valley, CA November 23, 1941, to Joseph Richard Hickman and Ethel June Croff. Richard is life-long member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He was raised in Sacramento, CA, he graduated from Hiram Johnson High School and then served in the Navy for four years.

Richard was an avid angler, gardener and cook, nicknamed Mr. Gadget Man, but found his greatest joy in service to others. He retired as a custodian from Scotten School in Grass Valley after fifteen years of service to the teacher and students.

Richard is survived by his wife of fourteen years, Carol, seven children Michelle Belon, Amber Pilcher, Susan Holt, Kristine Desalernos, Benjamin Hickman, Jami Smith, and Dawn Whitmore, two stepsons Marcus Hamilton and Patrick Hamilton. His siblings D. N. Spain (Richard), Veronica “Vicki” Foster (John), Forrest Hickman (Mary) and Greg Hickman (Olga). Dear friends Jim Thomas (Ruth) and Gerald “Chan” Chandler, numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, niece and nephews.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents Joseph Hickman and Ethel Croff Hickman, sister Gloria Jo and her husband Gary Rushing, grandson Scott Belon and stepson Bruce Hamilton.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, May 4, 2024 at 11 am. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 615 Hollow Way, Nevada City, CA for those who wish to attend in person but find they can’t you will be able to view on you tube Richard Hickman Service/Grass Valley Ward Auburn California Stake.
