Melvin James Boles was born on January 6, 1944, and passed away on September 23 at the age of 77 at Sutter Memorial Hospital in Sacramento. Jim was born in Chico but was raised in Durham and graduated from Durham High in 1962. After graduation he worked for various farmers until he landed a job at Chico State University. He worked at Chico State for a little better than fifty years. Jim loved farming and after retirement, he worked during harvest for R&A Amator Ranch. His favorite place was on the seat of a tractor.
Jim was an avid hunter and even took in a little fishing. For many, many years he hunted out of state with his buddies. He had to give this all up seven years ago; but in return, we got to keep him an extra seven years, for which he was very grateful.
Jim would strike up a conversation with anyone, and never knew a stranger. He treasured his friends and would do anything for them.
Jim is survived by his wife, Jenni, of 42 years; his sons John, Nathan (Cherie), and his grandson, Jordan, who he was very proud of. The family takes great comfort in knowing that Jim is at home with the Lord.
A memorial service will be held at Calvary Chapel Chico,1888 Springfield Dr., at 11:00 a.m. on November 20. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Sutter Memorial Hospital or a charity of your choice. Arrangements are being made at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary in Nevada City.
