James Roy Tucker passed away November 12th, 2020 in Grass Valley, CA at the age of 74. A closed casket visitation will be held on Saturday, November 21st from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Hooper & Weaver Mortuary. COVID-19 protocols such as masks and social distancing will be observed.
Jim was born October 17th, 1946 to Thomas and Virginia Tucker in Santa Ana, CA. He graduated from Aviation High School in 1964. He began his music career in the 1960’s with some high school buddies in a group known as “The Crossfires” who would later become known around the world as “The Turtles”. He played rhythm guitar with them from 1965 to 1968.
The band was most recognized for their song “Happy Together” released in 1967.
After leaving the band, he moved to Grass Valley where he went on to establish Jim Tucker Electric which he owned and operated for over 40 years.
Jim was a former member of the Nevada County Country Club and an avid Fast Pitch Player. He was inducted into the Nevada County Softball Association Hall of Fame in 1996 and the Colfax Labor Day Fast Pitch Classic Hall of Fame in 2003. He was an all-around athlete and loved to golf, fish, kayak and cook.
He is survived by daughters Kari (Darrin) Thompson of St. George, UT, and Bailey (John) Tucker of Roseville, CA, Grandchildren Easton, Bria, John, a new grandson coming in December, and companion of 21 years Debbie Prisk Olsen of Grass Valley.
He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Dave Tucker.
